Drive-In Theater

Date: Wed Aug 09 2006 16:29:55 GMT-0500 (CDT)
Wow, Donna was surfing today & found out that we have a drive-in theater no more than 20 minutes from our house. Century Capitol Drive-In. This is totally kewl, Donna & I used to go to the one back home almost every weekend, until it closed.. Now that was a real bummer. I simply love drive-in theaters, I get to go to a theater & bring my own food, sit in my own comfy vehicle & I get to smoke without leaving the theater 8-) Zach doesn't remember going because he was too small to remember, but we are taking him to this one this weekend. I think he will love it, besides we are going to see BarnYard & My Super Ex-Girlfriend. I'll write back to let you all know what I think of the place.. Update: The theater was pretty good, a little on the dirty side, but otherwise it was enjoyable.

More fun with the YUI

Date: Tue Aug 15 2006 03:49:57 GMT-0500 (CDT)
I got this crazy idea over the weekend & thought it would be kewl to write a game with the YUI libraries. First I started by trying to write a Solitaire game, but then I decided that it would be better to start smaller 8-) So I threw together this simple version of BlackJack. The important part of this set of code is not the code logic, but the DeckOfCards JS Object that I create & use. The logic is "OK", I didn't put in the rule for an Ace being worth either 1 point or 11 points. Next I want to try Poker 8-)

More YUI Code snippets

I have added a couple more code snippets for the YUI. Enjoy 8-)

My .create() Add-On Updated to 0.3

Date: Tue Aug 15 2006 08:11:13 GMT-0500 (CDT)
I recently updated my .create() add-on for the YAHOO.util.Dom tools and forgot to post any info on it 8-) You can see the examples here.. The updates include:
  • Fixed an issue with single style lines with an (;) at the end of the declaration
  • Fixed an issue with style declarations that have more than one dash (-) in the name (list-style-type)
  • Added support for listener calls in the attribute object:
                listener: [eventAction, function, base, scope]
                get's translated into:
                YAHOO.util.Event.addListener(elm, eventAction, function, base, scope);
  • Added support for re-ordering the arguments.

New Code Snippet

Date: Mon Aug 14 2006 03:41:28 GMT-0500 (CDT)
I added another code snippet last night for the YUI Calendar. You can see it here. The snippet shows how to select an entire week, instead of a single day.

Safari Label Bug

Date: Wed Aug 02 2006 04:59:52 GMT-0500 (CDT)
The single most annoying bug in Safari, is it's lack of support for the LABEL tag. So I have written a small "patch" ,that you can include in your page, and it will "fix" the issue. No coding changes required, it simply works 8-). So here's the code.

Site Layout Screwy... Fixed

Date: Tue Aug 29 2006 15:41:22 GMT-0500 (CDT)
Just an FYI, the site's layout is a bit screwy at the moment.. Trying to import & use the YUI CSS fonts, rest & grids files. Hopefully I will get it all lined out tonight 8-) Update: I got the site migrated over to the YUI Grids CSS.. There may be a few things left to tweek, but I think it's ok for now.. Let me know what you think or if you run into any "glitches"..

Spam, spam, spam!!!

Date: Fri Aug 25 2006 02:12:28 GMT-0500 (CDT)
<rant>SpamMan, I hate spam. I have had my davglass.com email address for over 10 years now. I guess it's nice to have it, but in that time the amount of spam I receive is unbelievable. Take a look at this picture, that's alot of spam huh? That is a the amount of spam I get in a week and a half. Yes, I said 10 days. I have gotten over 3000 spam messages in 10 days. Let's break that down:
  • 300 per day
  • 12.5 an hour
  • 0.208.. per minute
  • 9,000 per month (30 days)
  • 109,500 per year
Now, I have seen some of the messages. Most of the make absolutley no sense what-so-ever. So my question is: Why are there so many idiots out there sending me 109,500 spam messages a year? Most of them don't even contain simple messages. Example:
Islamic Legal IAEA Foreign World Khatami Views Epic Literary Art Radio TV Cultural Heritage Weblogs Sport Olym Cities

What the hell is the above supposed to mean?
  1. Is it a bad translation?
  2. Is it a virus that makes all normal text look like that?
  3. Is it simply a monkey slamming his ass off of a keyboard?
Personally I vote for number 3 !</rant>

Zach taking Shaolin Kung Fu classes!!

Date: Sun Aug 13 2006 13:24:25 GMT-0500 (CDT)
This weekend Zach took his first two Shaolin Kung Fu classes. He was a little iffy in the first class, but seemed to enjoy it more the second time around. At Ben's Kung Fu, they offer a really good set of classes, from children's classes to adult classes, as well as Tai Chi classes. I am most interested in taking some of the Tai Chi classes. I think that the park down the street from us has Tai Chi classes on the weekends, I will have to check them out..
